Abstract

Research compares media sharing sites startups, Google Video, UTube, and Apple's ITu= nesU to decide whether instructional videos can help improve teaching effectiven= ess and learning efficiency. Univ= ersity of Miami professors are testing instructional videos by sharing them with students and the internet.

TriFame.com, a site that acts as a star search for singing, dancing and modeling. ... Openfilm.com, ... and projectBreakout.com, .. hunger for a piece of that vi= deo advertising pie. Openfilm focuses on high-quality short films and animation= s, and Project Breakout has talent competitions in channels for comedy, music, filmmaking, broadcasting and fitness." Much like these site, the Rushinek= s are testing overlaying an ad on top instructional Google videos. These banner overlays ads appear o= n the bottom, top, side or center of about 20 percent of a video screen while the= video plays.

OVERLAYING ADS ON = TOP INSTRUCTIONAL GOOGLE VIDEOS.

They color the ads= in various colors, animations, using different fonts, displaying floating toll-free numbers, that are also URLs to attract sponsors that cater to the college market. The problem i= s that "not every video creator wants an ad sitting on their work of art, nor does every advertiser trust being associated with a user-generated video be= cause of the unpredictable and untrustworthy nature of the video content." This is where the university profe= ssors will gain some more trust due to additional scrutiny of students, peers, and administrators.

''Online advertise= rs need to feel safe. They don't yet, ... Even YouTube is struggling to make m= oney right now ... Niche topics are where success can be found. For one reason, they can obtain premium adverti= sing rates with a highly targeted audience.&nbs= p; For example, http://www.Break.com targets young males, Hulu.com targe= ts people needing to catch up on television shows, and Howcast.com reaches the how-to market." The Rush= ineks' research targets the college market of students, professors, and administrators.

NICHIER THAN EXTREME NICH FOCUS

"TriFame or Openfilm can benefit from their niche focus ... it's especially challenging considering that these startups picked a niche that YouTube already does we= ll" This research focuses on an extrem= ely narrow focus, not just academic lecture sites videos, but a specific sub se= t of business and accounting such as Management Accounting and Computer IT audit= ing, integrated with assessment, testing and CPE (Continuing Professional Educat= ion) credits.

"New media-upload sites are popping up with different flavors ... Veridoo.com is a social network divided into top= ic channels where users can upload and share various multimedia, including videos." Likewise, this research looks at sharing various multimedia such as Power Point Slides, instructor notes, quizzes, etc, without the burden of uploading. Instead instructors use ITunes, XM= L (eXtensible Markup Language) services, copying their contents to a portable HDD (Hard D= isk Drive), and inserting that HDD into a sliding tray on a WWW (World Wide Web) media = server directly, eliminating the tedious and band consuming uploads. Using, RSS (Real Simple Syndicatio= n) surfers can subscribe to this contents, to be downloaded automatically with= out user intervention, eliminating tedious manual downloads.<= /p>

The instructors sc= reen the lecture videos in the class to review the material and verify that the videos are good, before putting them online. An average instructor can easily e= xceed several hundred video clips during a singly semester. Much like commercial sites they "offers rewards for talent videos."= &nb= sp; American Idol and Dancing with the Stars inspire universities and professor to compete on talent with amateurish video that save costs and promote teaching effective= ness and learning efficiencies. Li= ke startups they partner with sponsors, professional associations, to gain mar= ket share and refine the process of sharing videos online on the world wide web= .
