I worked with Gary (g.kapit@miami.edu) in the help desk, = today Mon. 1-28-2008, 6:30-8:00 pm, showing him how to fix the laptop:

1. Make a username and password, wo= rks wirelessly, with the outlook 2007

2. Install outlook with that userna= me and password

3. Install Microsoft Office Account= ing 2008 Professional Edition (outside the VPC)

4. Max the RAM (I will pay for the extra RAM) that the Acc dept. does not want to pay for.

5. Verify that it surf the WWW wirelessly, since class does not have a network cable.

6. Drop it in the PCLab Jenkins 204 with Boris, or the Acc Dept. by Wed.= 3:30.

I will be in the PCLab MW 3:30-9= PM, see you next time.

I understand that the e-books do not need to be installed onto the lab computers. I am trying to solve our current problem as well as prepare for future problems. Last semester, I was called down to your classroom during class for some errors = you were having with MS Office Accounting. Several of my student technicians we= re also called down while your class was in session. During that time, you mentioned several exercises that the students could not complete successful= ly because the program was not functioning correctly. If I had access to the exercises and assignments that the students will be required to complete, t= hen I could test them on the lab machines to ensure their complete operability.=

This semester, I am trying to avoid any helpdesk calls while you are in class with your student= s. I do not want to interfere with the student’s learning. The most effect= ive way for my group to limit the amount of class time that is wasted, is for u= s to engage in thorough testing. Once the programs have been installed, and the exercises have been tested, then I can ask for your stamp of approval on the configuration. I do not want to be the victim of my own poor planning. If I have all of the course materials, then I feel that I can greatly reduce the number of issues that will arise throughout the rest of the semester.

If you are unable to = give me the e-books due to copyright issues, please let me know. My department is fully supporting me in my endeavor and we will purchase the e-books if need= be. As stated in my previous e-mail, the same goes for the textbooks. I will however need to obtain these materials very soon. I have set a deadline of completing the installation by Wednesday and I would like to handle the tes= ting before then.

I appreciate your assistance. The students already have access to the e-books and = the books do not need to be installed on the computers . Just install the software we discussed, including Microsoft Office Acccounting Professional 2008 and Captivate outside o= f the Virtual PC..
